Hi,
New to the forum but have been an RCDD since 2006. I recently was talking to a security vendor who had a run well over 1000' for a camera location. I suggested running fiber and he said he would just use a PoE extender. I always understood this was a misconception by most....has something changed? Are PoE extenders a legitimate solution for long distance runs over UTP?
Thanks,
J

Hi,

1000ft is not a very long distance,so sometimes fiber can be a little waste to use it,currently most POE extender can reach to 500m,so it can be OK.

what is your worry?

Yes for 1000 feet UTP you can add 2 PoE extenders ( 802.3af / at / bt ). Make sure you add them every 330 feet or so.
