I am doing research on holistic vendor solutions for Infrastructure management. I am aware that there are DCIM Software solutions to collect data but my research shows that they are generally coupled with vendor devices such as Emerson or Schneider.

I am aware of Industrial control protocol options some vendors provide with their products such as MODBUS etc. However this space is highly fragmented and security is a concern. So collecting and controlling over standard network is not optimal.

I am interested in feasibility of doing below tasks from an independent vendor and not the device vendor (CRAC, Smart PDU's etc) :
1) Monitor: Record physical properties (air flow, temperature, humidity, vibration, Input voltage, power frequency, currents) through their own sensors inside a data center. As far as I can see, you can use different smart devices which monitor their own properties (Smart PDU's, Fire suppression systems, CRAC units etc) in isolation.
2) Control: Change parameters of a system through actuators or device controllers. As far as I can see devices such as CRAC units do provide the control panel option for commanding multiple devices but the controllers do not have a standard communication protocols.
