| | I am hoping someone can help answer this question for me. I am cabling a new building at one of our radio sites. The new building is approximately 30ft away from the old building and a 100 pair backbone is needed between the two. There is a 4" PVC conduit running above ground across the ice bridge that goes from the new building to the old building. everything is grounded to BICSI and Motorola R56 standards and Primary protectors will be installed at each end of the span. My question is: Do i have to use OSP cable for this run, or is riser cable ok for the install? RF has not been an issue at this site since all antennas on the tower are above 150' Help ASAP is much appreciated.

| You don't have to use an OSP cable per se, but an indoor/outdoor cable would be highly recommended.
You want a cable that can deal with temperature changes, being in a conduit above ground, the changes are going to be more radical than a conduit located in the earth.
An OSP loose tube cable will give you the best results, and indoor/outdoor would be a good second choice.

| | Great! thanks for the tip. We dont usually deal with interbuilding backbone often since most of the time our backbone between sites is microwave. Not useful here since its only a 40 foot hop! thanks again
