I have followed in LinkedIN Data center professional group a Post discussing ideas, suggestions, from several DC professionals
Some of them advise for using overhead tray, (FO and/or copper cabling); others regarding that it is still worth to use the under floor cabling.

What do you think or have experienced ? taking in consideration


1. Architectural
*raised floor hight
*ground reference grid
*cleaning maintenance
*cabinets/racks hight (more 42RU)
*new,refurbished or

2. Cooling
* air flow obstructions
* hot/cold isles
* containment
* LIQUID (rack or server type)
* "FREE" -convection)

3. Energy
*cabling
*reneweable generation

4. Safety
*fire detection/supression (components hight)
*fire stopping

5.Security
*access (biometrical or not)
*cctv (IP or not)

6. Information Technology Transport
*cabling (FO & cooper) trunks or not
-category 6A (unshilded or shielded) and/or Class FA -cat 6 is not a consideration for this discussion-
-MACs (lay,dress, administration)
-40 & 100 GBps trasmission -10Gbps default installation-
*pathways
-ladder Vs mesh tray types
-support (under floor or over racks)
-ITS vs energy cabling pathways coordination (hight,etc)
*cabinets/racks
- w or wo/ chimmenies
-containment (cold or hot aisles)
- 42 RU or more
-liquid (panduit or rittal types)
*telecomm grounding & bonding (racks bondings)
*administration (software NOT HDW, tags,...)



In that post they wrote that we (bicsi people) do not have the envison for INTEGRATED solutions. So please your thougths.

Roberto-
I am a raised floor contractor so I have a tendency to push for raised floor. I usually find that a hybrid system of under floor cooling and over head cable management seems to be the most effective. If you are planning a data center, make sure you make the floor higher than anticipated. This will allow for some flexibility in future if you expand or if equipment demands more cooling.
