Perhaps it is just me, but I find the spell checker to be confusing. The placement of the text when the checker identifies a word that needs checking seems quirky. The is inserted within the text and is hard to discern if you actually mis-spelled the word. Numerous times I have gone back over my post to check it and it appears fine. I think I am catching on to how it works, but it is unlike any other spell checker I am accustomed to.

Seems like MS Outlook and I think the "Spell Check" as been updated.  I do remember an earlier version which was hard to follow.  Thank you for bringing this attention.
