Need to fill a Cable Installer's position and was wanting this to be within the BICSI Installer Cert.  The position will need to be able to pull cables (fiber and copper), terminate (fiber and copper), use an OTDR, use a Fusion Splicer, Test and Measure fiber and copper.  Work with and understand Telephone POTS and VoIP and Data.

This work will be exclusively within a Post Secondary (University multi campus) environment.

Can anyone help with what levels of BICSI Certifications would best fill this position.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,
Let me help.  Two quick questions.

Where is this position located?  What area?

"Use of OTDR and use of a Fusion Splicer."  Would that relate to "full understanding of" (e.g. use of many types, different applications/environments, troubleshooting with, necessary maintenance of OTDR/Splicer) or basic understanding?

The requirements you're speaking of sounds like an ITS Installer 2, Fiber or ITS Technician level abilities.  Also, this topic is posted in the Data Center forum, so this position looks like it requires experience with Data Centers.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks Kevin

The work will be campus wide for inside and outside cable plant, some work in a Data Center.

OTDR is for testing fiber optic cables to determine if the cable and connections meet specification, must have full knowledge or be willing to learn.

Fusion Splicer is for termination or fusing like or dislike fibers, experience and knowledge to know how to operate correctly

This person would be responsible for seeing that all cables, fiber or copper, are installed per codes and standards.

Hope that helps

Again, Thanks

Dave
